Another Bucco envisions
a seat in State Assembly
BOONTON TWP. (12/10/08) -
Anthony Bucco Jr., the son of State
Senator Anthony Bucco, announced yesterday he was a
candidate for what will be a vacant seat in the State
Assembly’s 25th District. The seat presently
is held by Assemblyman Richard Merkt who has announced
his retirement to run in what surely will be another
difficult primary election for Governor.
Bucco’s candidacy opens what
should be an interesting primary election contest.
Another strong candidate in the race will be his
brother-in-law Freeholder Douglas Cabana who has stated
that he will enter the race next month.
With Bucco and Cabana already
announced Republican candidates and speculation that
Randolph Councilman Gary Algeier is also interested, the
race is getting a bit crowded. They, along with
Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, who is seeking
re-election, will be vying for just two seats.
Bucco, 46, is a Republican and
an attorney. His wife, Amy, is Cabana’s sister. The
couple has three daughters. At his kick-off rally some
200 enthusiastic supporters heard his pledge to stick to
the usual conservative principals… cutting taxes,
eliminating wasteful state spending, reducing business
taxes, stimulating the economy, creating jobs, promoting
alternative energy, protection for the unborn and the
rights of gun owners.
He also pledged to be
the “loudest voice” in the legislature about what he
termed the “flawed and failed” school funding formula
that he said has led to “billions of wasted taxpayer
dollars.”
Bucco’s campaign co-chair persons are Morris County
Sheriff Edward Rochford and County Clerk Joan Bramha
