For the three
previous years the library board was a main source of disagreement
between the then mayor and township council. The news state-of-the-
art library had been built, dedicated and opened but there was
constant friction between both bodies concerning possession of funds

running for re-election in the April 15 school board election here
will run opposed.
Running for

Library will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Sunday, March 2nd
from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a “Read Across America Read-a-Thon.”
Guest readers will read their favorite children’s books, and the
children will make crafts in honor of Dr. Seuss. Anyone who would

State
Legislators say Corzine’s budget cuts should go further
TRENTON
(2/26/08) –
The three state legislators from the 24th
District’s first reaction to Gov. Corzine’s Fiscal Year 2009 budget
message was a call for further reductions in the size of the State
Government, suggesting he begin with reforms in the Department of
Environmental Protection. Corzine yesterday proposed a plan to take
“painful steps” to cut a record $500 million from the budget.

Beck (R-12) and Steve Oroho (R-24) today again slammed Governor
Corzine’s toll hike plan and the “outrageous” legal fees they said
were being paid a favored law firm. They said they were calling on
the newly appointed State Comptroller to investigate the matter.

Horizon responsible asks Assembly legislators to act

Assemblyman Gary Chiusano (R-24) has
launched an effort to hold Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield
accountable for its loss of the personal information of some 300,000
of it’s more than three million health insurance subscribers. The
information included social security numbers, birth dates, and other
identifiers.

Most property
owners appear content with new assessments
MOUNT OLIVE
(2/06/08) –
Only one property owner, as of today, has
announced an intention to appeal their new tax assessment with the
Morris County Board of Taxation. Township Tax Assessor Jack
Marchione feels good about that but added his office has gotten some
requests for appeal forms and it’s the kind of thing that more can
come in as it gets closer to the deadline for filing. Some 8,000
properties in the township were re-evaluated.

income residents can receive tax return help

The Morris County Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance (VITA) of NORWESCAP is offering, at no charge, federal
and state income tax preparation for qualified residents, i.e. low
income seniors, being disabled or a low income worker.
Qualified
residents should call (908) 876-5941 to make an appointment with an
Internal Revenue Service certified VITA volunteer. It’s a popular
service and interested county residents should not delay in calling
for an appointment.
Residents with
simple returns (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, Schedules A&B) the assistance
is being hosted by the Washington Township Parks and Recreation
Department at their Senior Center in Rock Spring Park off E.
Springtown Road on Tuesday February 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A call
must be made to arrange for an appointment.
