Boaters and marinas now have a
resource to environmentally dispose of shrink wrap
MOUNT OLIVE (2/27/08) – The days when boaters and
marina owners could generally discard shrink wrap in
landfills when winter ended may be over.
The
Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA) has
received a $9,000 state grant to team up with the Morris
County Park Commission to host a collection container at
Lee’s Marina on Lake Hopatcong
Penny Jones, a recycling education specialist with the
utilities authority said the five year grant will enable
the utilities authority to develop an effective and
efficient program to collect, bale and re-cycle the boat
wrap, Jones said.
A
collection container will be purchased, marked and
located at Lee’s Marina, she said. Boat owners will be
able to roll their dry shrink wrap up on a clean
surface, tie it into a bundle using a strip cut from the
end of the wrap as a tie and put it into the recycling
container
Owners of boats or water craft that are stored or docked
elsewhere also will be able to bring their shrink wrap
to Lee’s Marina for recycling from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
every day between March 15 and June 30.
