24th Dist.
Legislators named to
choice committee assignments
By
Richard Johnston
TRENTON (1/15/08) -
The
24th
District Legislators, Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison
Littell McHose and Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, today announced their
committee assignments for the 2008-2010 Legislative Session.
Oroho eagerly accepted membership on the Senate Budget and
Appropriations and the Senate Economic Growth Committees. He will be
a minority member on both committees.
McHose, an outspoken member of the Assembly Budget Committee,
will continue to serve on that committee but has moved up to be the
second ranking Republican. She also has been assigned to serve on
the Assembly Tourism and Gaming Committee.
“The Budget Committee
offers a unique perspective into government operations as a whole in
the state,” she said, “ and I am looking forward to continuing my
work scrutinizing the necessity of every item in it,” said McHose.
“At this juncture, when
state planning dictates a significant direction for growth in
tourism related activities, I look forward to influencing these
policies with legislative proposals in the Tourism & Gaming
Committee,” McHose said. “Outdoor recreation, ‘agritourism,’ and
the equine industry are important to the economy of Northwest New
Jersey so those areas will hold a special interest for me,” she
said.
Oroho also accepted his committee assignments with
anticipation. “I’m told it is unusual for a “freshman” senator to be
assigned to a major committee like “Budget.” he said. “For most of
my political career I have complained about waste in government.
“Now I am eager to get to work to start identifying where the waste
is in state government and making recommendations to correct what I
believe to be abuses and recommending spending cuts.”
He added that the Economic Growth Committee was a “natural” for
him. “I have had considerable successful experience in my own
business career and service with the “Sussex County Vision 2020
Initiative.” I believe the experience officials gain at lower
levels of government can help make them better partners with the
business community to keep and grow more jobs in New Jersey…and I’m
committed to doing that,” he said
Chiusano was chosen to serve on the Assembly Financial
Institutions and Insurance Committee and the Assembly Commerce and
Economic Development Committee, also two prestigious committees.
“I am anxious to get to work immediately on my two committees,”
Chiusano said. “With my background in business and finance, as well
as serving on similar committees in local and county governments, I
believe I can bring common sense points of view to any discussion.”
Oroho’s first day of committee meetings in the Senate
will be on January 28. All committees for both McHose and Chiusano
meet for the first time January 24.
