Mount Olive to celebrate memorable Memorial Weekend 

     MOUNT OLIVE (5/22/08) – The highlight of this Memorial Day weekend will be the dedication and inauguration of the All Veterans Memorial, a unique monument honoring all veterans of all branches of service in all wars.  The ceremony will begin Sunday at 2 p.m. in Turkey Brook Park. Full Story


Kiwanis celebration Saturday honoring Lamonte & Sheard 

     MOUNT OLIVE (5/21/08) - The Kiwanis Club is holding a Fiesta Mexicana celebration on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Budd Lake Firehouse on Route 46.  The affair is being held to honor Dr. Rosalie Lamonte, the township school superintendent and Jerry Sheard, a Budd Lake Fire Squad member and dedicated Volunteer. Oroho, McHose, Chiusano oppose California same sex marriage law  

 

      SPARTA (5/16/080 - State Sen. Steven Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, (all R-Sussex, Morris, Hunterdon) took issue in a statement today with yesterday’s California State Supreme Court’s decision to overturn that state’s voter approved ban on same-sex marriage.          PARSIPPANY (5/16/08) – Tom Wyka, one of the Democrats challenging Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen in the 11th Congressional District, is hitting Frelinghuysen hard on the influence of “big money” in politics.  He says he isn’t talking about money candidates raise from “in district” supporters to run their political campaigns, it’s where the “really big” money comes from, he says, and the influence it gives them. Oroho demanding investigation of “Special Aid Program” 

        TRENTON (5/16/08) – State Sen. Steve Oroho once again is attacking the state’s “Special Municipal Aid Program” and once again has been turned back by the Democratic legislative majority even though the State Auditor’s Office has just issued a “highly critical” report on the program which has ballooned from $38 million to $153 million in the past six years. Budd Lake Fire Department receives $78,000 grant for new roof and windows 

     MOUNT OLIVE (5/12/08) – The old saying,”If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again,” applies here to a $78,000 federal Housing and Urban Development grant the township received that will allow the Budd Lake Fire Department to replace the roof on the Route 46 firehouse and new windows where needed.  Full Story


Local government budget battle rages on Mayor and Council to meet again Tuesday 

            MOUNT OLIVE (5/09/08) – The battle of the budget continues with Mayor David Scapicchio determinedly sticking to the $26,856,169 budget he submitted to the township council last January. Chiusano: New Jersey has worst tax system

      MOUNT OLIVE (5/1/08) - Citing the results of a new study released yesterday  that shows New Jersey has the worst tax system of the 50 States, Assemblyman Gary Chiusano said Gov. Corzine and his party can’t blame the nation’s economic woes for the abysmal tax ranking of the Garden State.  The study was published by The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBEC). Mount Olive Bar and Grill owner arrested and charged in drug bust

      MOUNT OLIVE (5/02/08) – Jason Barry,  46, of Long Valley, one of the owners of the Mount Olive Bar and Grill, located in the shopping mall on Route 206, was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence. Sens. Oroho and Bateman Challenge Abbott funding   

      Trenton (5/1/08) – State Senators Steve Oroho and Christopher “Kip” Bateman today challenged governor Corzine’s decision to award the 31 Abbott districts substantially more state aid next year. Abbott district schools are in the state’s urban areas. Full Story


Planners again reviewing plans for a major housing development on Rt. 46 

     MOUNT OLIVE (4/29/08) -  The Planning Board is reviewing a new plan for a 280 age restricted housing unit development in the tract off Route 46 across from the Budd Lake Shopping Center and behind the Board of Education administrative offices.  The development, to be known as the Mount Olive Mews, also would include 56 affordable housing units.
