Trooper stops speeding car finds
160 bags of heroin
MOUNT OLIVE (11/20/08) –
Desmond Mercer is 21 years old and from what police
found in his possession his aspiration was to be a drug
dealer. A bad choice. You have to have some smarts to be
a criminal. Desmond appears not to be gifted in that
area.
Last night at about 9 p.m.
Desmond and a passenger who was in his car, Amy Jo
Simon, 23, were doing 90 on Route 80 back to their homes
in Pennsylvania.
Trooper J. DeLorenzo was
patrolling on Route 80 when he observed Mercer’s car and
gave chase clocking him at 90 miles an hour in a 65 mile
zone.
When he stopped the car and
walked up to it there in plain view was a stash of
marijuana. DeLorenzo ordered him out of the car and as
he was handcuffing him Mercer became aggressive while
trying to destroy what he was carrying…that turned out
to be heroin, according to DeLorenzo.
The passenger, Simon, had three
bundles in her possession, each containing 50 bags of
heroin. All in all police found 160 bundles which they
say is worth about $1,600.
Police charged the
pair with intent to distribute heroin and possession of
marijuana. He was also charged with resisting arrest
and destruction of evidence.
They were transported to the
Morris County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail each.
