MOUNT OLIVE (10/31/07) – A newly organized, non partisan citizens group calling itself “Morris Residents Take Action” is endorsing Republican Jim Murray and two of the Democrats running for the three Board of Freeholders seats in Tuesday’s election. The Democrats being endorsed are Mosche Cohen and George Hayman.

The group maintains it is unethical and a conflict of interest for an elected official to hold more than one paid elected and/or appointed government position. The two Republican candidates, Douglas Cabana and Jack Schrier, they charge hold additional jobs which they say is unethical and a conflict of interest.

Listed in the 2007 issue of the Morris County Manual, Incumbent Cabana is the municipal prosecutor in seven, perhaps eight, Morris municipalities including Parsippany-Troy Hills, Boonton, Boonton Township, East Hanover, Victory Gardens, Mine Hill, Mt Arlington and Wharton. Incumbent Freeholder Jack Schrier also holds dual offices, the other being a township committeeman in Mendham.

The only name mentioned in the organization is Dave Jones of Budd Lake a long time activist in Mount Olive. In introducing the organization it maintains that it does not have to file with New Jersey ELEC because it is not spending $1,800.

It instructs voters opposed to “double dipping” (public officials holding more than one public job) they can show their feelings by splitting their vote to elect Murray, Cohen and Hayman.

The organization’s web site presently is “under construction” but can be reached by e-mailing morrisresidents@yahoo.com or writing to Morris Residents Take Action c/o Dave Jones, PO Box 390, Budd Lake, NJ 07828
