present “Nutcracker” at Middle School

MOUNT OLIVE (11/12/07 – The Christmas holiday season classic, “The Nutcracker” will be performed by an internationally acclaimed dance and acting company on Saturday and Sunday, December 1st and 2nd at the Mount Olive Middle School on Wolf Road.  The times for the show on Saturday are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

MOUNT OLIVE (11/12/07) – The weather was perfect for a November Veterans Day. It was chilly, but very unusual, there was no wind. Unfortunately or fortunately, it’s been a noticeably lackluster campaign even though all the candidates have been working hard going door to door to speak to voters. There are many who follow these type things who believe that once again there will be a low voter turnout in Mount Olive as elsewhere because there is no national or gubernatorial election and that would be terribly unfortunate. MO Council purchasing three

Police nab accused burglar
in the act in Budd Lake

MOUNT OLIVE (10/13/07) – Police officers Walter Sevensky and Casey Grimm received a call at 2:46 a.m. from a resident in Harris Lane, Budd Lake that a burglary was in progress. The victim identified the alleged burglar as Nolvis Rivera-Garcia, 32, and told the officers that Rivera-Garcia had attempted to burglarize his home on two occasions.

Police cars colors going back
to traditional black and white

MOUNT OLIVE (9/18/07) – For many years policemen who drove patrol cars as well as detectives and other law enforcement officials referred to the cars as “black and whites.” In the last 30 years more and more police departments, bowing to change continued to vary with traditional colors and solids with stripes and other designs. In Mount Olive the patrol cars have been white with blue stripes for many years. Just as the cycle of change occurred many departments are now going back to the original black and white and among the latest to join the change back is Mount Olive.

First phase All Veterans Memorial done
Project on target to be ready next May

MOUNT OLIVE (9/17/07) – Phase one of the All Veterans Memorial in Turkey Brook Park is about complete and the seond phase has begun. What started as a boy scout Eagle Award project by Eric Wood expanded into a regional effort and a full time commitment by his mother, Charlie Wood Uhrmann, who jumped into the project as its coordinator. She wrote the following essay as the first phase of the project approaches completion.

Opposed to proposed borrowing plan

MOUNT OLIVE (9/3/07) - Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose, (R-Sussex, Morris and Hunterdon) a member of the State Assembly Budget Committee, has challenged what she says is a state plan to borrow $2 billion to keep the state spending afloat for the remainder of this year. “It’s an indication of just how dire the state’s financial condition is,” she said, and urged the current Democratic administration led by Gov. Corzine to stop trying to have the state borrow its way out of debt.

Dog park construction is under way
at Turkey Brook Park in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE (7/11/07) – Members of the Township Council enthusiastically agreed last night to appropriate up to $35,000 to start construction of a dog park at Turkey Brook Park. The $35,000 includes $17,500 from the township’s Open Space Trust Fund which will serve as a down payment as required by the Local Bonding Law. The rest of the cost, up to $17,500 will be bonded and is expected to come from fund raisers, grant monies and donations from users.

MOUNT OLIVE (5/9/07) – It would have cost less than $50 in additional taxes for the year for the average homeowner…a one time shot…. but the Township Council was steadfast last night and unanimously rejected a board of education request to pay $465,524 for moving two classroom trailers from the high school to the Sandshore Elementary School and $150,179 to install bleachers and backstops at several school fields.
