MOUNT OLIVE - Charlene (Charlie) Uhrmann is leaving no stone unturned in her quest to inform the public and raise funds for the All Veteran’s Memorial at Turkey Brook Park. It’s a daunting task.
So far she’s made dozens of presentations before groups as diverse as the Board of Education, the Free Masons, St. Jude Church, the Budd Lake Fire Department and the Chamber of Commerce. She’s also spoken before many social and public bodies. She’s encouraged by the enthusiasm she has received from every group.
Her goal is to sell 37,000 commemorative brick pavers with the names of veterans from any war for $25 each. The veteran can have served in the time of war or peace. So far she’s sold more than 3,000, some as far back as the American Revolution. The architect rendering (above) was done by Glen Pellet of Schemata Architects in Summit. It shows a preamble that will include 24 inch squares with the names of each U.S. president along with the dates they served and a quotation with which they can be identified.
It all started when Charlie’s son, Eric, conceptualized the project as part of his Eagle Scout award. Charlie caught the spirit and started working with him to make the project a reality and that has evolved into pretty near a full time effort. For further information concerning the project visit www.publiusmarketing.com/memorial.

Each morning during book week a poem or a book review was given by a student. They also had opportunities to win prizes for completing literary puzzles. Teachers engaged in special story times and invited guest readers into their classrooms. Students shown above gathered in the school’s hallway for the "Read In."
